Experience with De Stroomversneller: Sara Bax - Boy on the Moon
In 2021, Sara Bax wrote "Daddy," a jazz song recognizable to anyone who is missing an important person in their life. Behind the intimate lyrics is a personal story of trauma. The combination of this story and experiencing disconnection with each other, our dreams and nature, resulted in the writing of two more songs: "Boy on the Moon" and "Turn down the Pace." During her year of study at ArtEZ Jazz&Pop Arnhem, Sara met the perfect musicians to perform this story with in a couple of teachers and an alumnus. A "yes" from these musicians and a scheduled studio day, resulted in Sara's debut EP, which will be released on Oct. 7, 2022.
Boy on the Moon
The EP is called "Boy on the Moon" and is a trilogy written and arranged especially for this unique line-up. Together with Sara, Max Hering (drums), Emile Visser (cello), Jeroen van Vliet (piano) and Angelo Verploegen (flügelhorn) perform the intimate, personal pieces that at the same time contain big, recognizable themes and give a critical view of our society. This modern jazz with pop influences is narrative, clear and forms a colorful whole.
Sara Bax on her debut EP: "With 'Boy on the Moon,' I want to make you feel like coming back to the dreams you had as a child and reflecting on the connections you have with people and the world. I let the lyrics shine through in the arrangements and the music. Playing with this amazing band was a dream come true for me, adding an extra layer to the whole thing. I also wanted to feel connected to the band as much as possible, which is why I stayed out of the booth in the studio. We recorded everything live and in one room on the same day, which creates the intimate and connected atmosphere in the music."
