Mentoring Program 2024

Cultuur Academy 's Mentorship Program is back up and running in Fall 2024! It is a unique opportunity for budding creators (think musician, actor, visual artist, dancer, designer, filmmaker or a mix of these) to professionalize themselves. In eight months, participants undergo an inspiring learning journey and are prepared for their future as creators.

For whom

Whether you are just starting out as a maker or have been at it for a while, the Mentoring Program is for anyone who sometimes comes up against walls as a maker. Do you need to spar with others about the artistic or business challenges you are facing? And are you also looking for tools to develop the necessary skills and expand your network? Then don't hesitate and sign up!

Program

In a period of 8 months you will meet with the other mentees one day a month (every third Tuesday of the month from October 2024 to May 2025). With this group you will exchange knowledge and experience through intervision, among other things. On the same day you will attend one of our workshops. These workshops will help you to determine your rate, (re)discover your distinguishing capacity or work more efficiently and focus on achieving your goals.

In addition, you will be paired with a personal mentor from your discipline who has a flourishing professional practice. Over a six-month period, you will have conversations with your mentor about your development issues and mastery. You will plan these conversations together.

Terms

We are looking for 10 motivated creators who want to participate in this track from October 2024. You can apply for the program if you meet the conditions below:

• You are a creator, (musician, actor, visual artist, dancer, designer, filmmaker or a mix of these);
• You live and/or work in Arnhem and/or Nijmegen;
• You have been working professionally for up to 8 years;
• You want to develop in your professional practice;
• You have a learning question (or several) on a business and/or organizational level. In addition, you may also have an artistic learning question.

The cost to participate is €150 euros including VAT. Through tool PPO you can reclaim ⅓ part of this. If you live in the municipality of Nijmegen, you can also reclaim ⅓ from the municipality.

Application & selection

Justify why you want to join our mentoring program and what your learning question is (may be in a letter, may also be in a video of max 5 minutes).

Sample questions you can answer in your motivation:

• Tell us who you are and what you make, as well as what you are up against and what you would like to learn. Who is your role model, who do you look up to?
• What is not yet succeeding? And why and how do you think sharing with others or a mentor helps.
• If you already know who your ideal mentor would be, or what a mentor could support you with, we'd love to hear that in your motivation as well.

In addition, please send us a portfolio or links to your work as well as your resume.

Selection Process

For both rounds, a selection will be made based on your motivation and learning questions. We strive for a mix of makers from different disciplines and from both cities.

If you register for the first application round and are not selected, this does not mean that your application was not of good quality, but it may have something to do with the other selection criteria. Your application will be considered again in the second round because we will then be able to assess the applications as a whole and make the final selection.

Practical

If you are selected to participate in the Mentoring Program, we expect you to attend the intervision every third Tuesday of the month from October 2024 through May 2025 from 4:00 - 6:30 pm and the workshops on the same day from 7:30 - 9:30 pm. Between the intervision and the workshop there will be an opportunity to have a meal together. These days take place alternately in Arnhem and Nijmegen.

The cost to participate is €150 euros including VAT. Through tool PPO you can reclaim ⅓ part of this. If you live in the municipality of Nijmegen, you can also claim ⅓ back from the municipality.

After the start of the Mentoring Program, we will take the time to find a mentor that is a good fit for you. Starting in December, you will schedule monthly meetings with your mentor yourself.

In case of interest from non-Dutch speakers, this edition of the mentorship program will be making use of "lingua receptiva", which implies that both Dutch and English may be used. The speaker uses the language they are most comfortable with, the listener uses their receptive skills for that language (while replying in their own preferred language).
