Will you be Cultuur Academy's new board secretary (m/f/x) (unpaid)?

About Cultuur Academy

Cultuur Academy supports culture professionals in Arnhem, Nijmegen and the region by offering appropriate programs such as workshops, training courses and long(er) learning paths. We believe that investing in the education and development of the cultural professional makes for a stronger sector. We focus on the non-artistic side of working in the cultural sector, in the subfields: business, organizational, leadership and organizational development.

We are also actively building a network where asking questions and sharing knowledge is the norm, with the goal of strengthening individuals, organizations and the industry alike. Connecting and meeting are central to us. Cultuur Academy is the place where cultural professionals in the Arnhem/Nijmegen region can go for their professional development.

Here's what you're going to do

As secretary, you will be involved and excited by our mission. You will be part of a five-member board. We apply the Culture Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code and the Diversity & Inclusion Code. We are looking for someone whose talents will contribute to a board culture in which all voices from the Arnhem/Nijmegen region are heard and valued.

As a board member at Cultuur Academy , you have an oversight role. Together with the other board members you keep a sharp eye on whether our policy and programs are appropriate and relevant to our mission and vision. With your input you will ensure that Cultuur Academy can even better meet the development needs of a diverse group of cultural professionals.

With the board:

  • Meet six nights a year.
  • Provide advice to the director when warranted.
  • Visit the Cultuur Academy team and activities several times a year.

As secretary, you will include:

  • Ensure that processes and procedures within the Cultuur Academy Academy administration are diligent.
  • Ensuring that actions are taken in accordance with the board's obligations.
  • Thinking along about the diversity of our programs and participants and partners.
  • Be responsible for reporting and you will direct the external note taker. So you do not have to take the minutes yourself. You are the memory of the board and ensure that the to do's and appointments are not left lying around, but are carefully and as agreed.

About you*

  • You have experience in carefully organizing and streamlining processes (consider also experience from volunteer work, study or personal experience).
  • You know the cultural sector and its issues, with specific affinity for the maker side (e.g., as an artist, teacher or social worker).
  • You have knowledge of multiple cultures and have a broad network. Immersing yourself in others is second nature.
  • You are communicatively strong, can ask critical questions and dare to enter into conversations in which things may rub off, without losing sight of the other person's situation.

* Do you recognize yourself in some of the above points? Then we would also like to meet you!

What do you get in return?

  • This position is unpaid but expenses will be reimbursed.
  • Participation in workshops and trainings is possible.
  • Tea and cookies at the meetings.
  • An even larger network and dynamic social moments.
  • Board secretary on your resume!

We strive for diversity on the board because working in a diverse team makes us more innovative and creative. We strive to create an inclusive environment for all and work hard to achieve this.
