Experience with Groeispurt: Tétisca Huijbrechts - Fashion and Art for Sustainability

Through her project “Fashion and Art for Sustainability,” textile artist Tétisca Huijbrechts shows how forgotten materials can be given a new purpose. Her mini-collection, made from old hospital sheets from all over the Netherlands, not only has a unique look but also a rich history. Each piece tells a story—a story that Tétisca breathes new life into through movement, light, and creativity.

A challenging adventure

Creating the collection was an intensive process. “I had to put together a mini-collection in a short amount of time that reflected my artistic identity and social vision of sustainability,” Tétisca explains. “On top of that, organizing the presentation in Japan was quite a challenge.” Still, this experience has only made her stronger. “I learned that I can perform well under time pressure. Artistically, I discovered new materials and techniques, which allowed me to put my own spin on the clothing.”

The Value of Groeispurt

For Tétisca, the support of Groeispurt was essential. “I didn’t have to worry about funding. That gave me the freedom to focus entirely on the creative process and preparations for Japan.” But Groeispurt more than just financial support. “The application process is manageable, even for newcomers, and the guidance is helpful. The networking events are a great way to meet other creators, exchange ideas, and potentially collaborate.”

A New Step: My Own Clothing Line

The project has helped Tétisca grow not only artistically but also personally. “It has given me the confidence to launch my own small private collection,” she says proudly. And that’s not all: she is currently working on launching her own clothing line. “A logical next step in my journey as a sustainable fashion designer.”

Where can I watch it?

Tétisca’s work will be on display from October 25 through November 8, 2025 , at the International Drawing Center, located at Papengas 6 in Nijmegen. This is a unique opportunity to experience her sustainable collection in person and be inspired by the stories behind the fabric.
