Symposium Accessible Events - How do we take the next step?

In a joint effort to make culture accessible to everyone, we are organizing the very first symposium, “Accessible Events: How Do We Take the Next Step?” on November 25, 2024, in collaboration with the Arnhem Platform for the Chronically Ill and Disabled (Apcg) and the City of Arnhem. This event is aimed at festival and event organizers who prioritize inclusivity.

The symposium, which will take place at Geniet in de Weerd in Arnhem, consists of a full-day program featuring a plenary opening session, three rounds of workshops, and lunch. The day will conclude with a reception. The plenary opening session is free and open to everyone.

Improve the accessibility of your event

Participants are encouraged to develop ideas that improve the accessibility of their events. After the symposium, they can submit a plan and have a chance to win a voucher worth €2,500. This prize is intended for the best plan that promotes the accessibility of an event. The prize money can be used to remove barriers and make events more accessible to visitors with disabilities.

On the “Accessibility” page of our knowledge base, you’ll find practical information and tips on how to make events more accessible. Topics such as physical accessibility, communication, auditory and visual accessibility, and program adjustments are discussed using examples and videos. Check out the knowledge base.

Sign up by November 18!

Those interested can register for the symposium through November 18. You can also indicate your workshop preferences during registration. We’ll make sure to assign you to the right sessions so that everyone can participate to the fullest!
