Pien Houthoff

After 17 years at the LUX arthouse cinema—the last 8 of which as managing director—Pien Houthoff took the leap into entrepreneurship in 2025. At LUX, she held various positions, from head of the film department to program manager, eventually rising to the role of executive director. In that role, she implemented several innovations in programming, the theaters, and the organization. She co-founded the Go Short and InScience film festivals and established the department for film education and visual literacy. Drawing on her in-depth knowledge and drive for innovation, she built a robust and distinctive programming lineup—often in collaboration with partners in the city—thereby securing LUX an indispensable place in Nijmegen’s cultural landscape.

As a consultant in the cultural and creative sector, she now helps organizations and creators with strategy development, policy, concept development, and organizational issues. You can consult with Pien on leading and revitalizing a cultural organization, programming and interdisciplinary collaboration, setting up festivals or educational programs, and strategic issues related to positioning and organizational development in the cultural sector.
