Je bent als organisator of initiatiefnemer vaak ook degene die verantwoordelijk is voor de veiligheid. Veiligheid voor je bezoekers maar ook voor je personeel. Verschillende omstandigheden kunnen leiden tot vervelende situaties of zelfs tot calamiteiten. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan de weersomstandigheden of gevaarlijke stoffen. Daarom is het in veel gevallen belangrijk om een BHV-er, of een medische dienst dan wel EHBO op jouw locatie aanwezig te hebben.

What does first aid do?

First Aid stands for First Aid for Accidents. Physical injuries can occur when carrying out an initiative or project. You can minimize this by taking as many safety precautions as possible. However, sometimes someone is unlucky or something unexpected happens. This is why it is good to make medical arrangements. A first aid association has all the knowledge to deal with issues such as injuries after falls or fights, allergic reactions, unwellness, overheating and excessive drinking or drug use. In addition, they can easily and quickly communicate with ambulance personnel, for example.

When do you need first aid?

Vaak is een goede EHBO-kist al voldoende. In sommige gevallen is het aan te raden om iemand met een BHV-diploma op locatie te hebben. Wanneer je enkele honderden bezoekers verwacht of je richt je middels jouw programma op bijzondere doelgroepen, dan is het raadzaam om een EHBO-organisatie aanwezig te hebben op locatie. In veel gevallen wordt dit bij het verlenen van een vergunning zelfs als eis gesteld. Dan heeft de gemeente dit overlegd met de GHOR.

There are an awful lot of things that affect the deployment of first aid. Therefore, it is also difficult to indicate a standard, although most municipalities have guidelines for this. It is good to analyze as many aspects and scenarios as possible. We have listed some examples for you below:

• The total number of visitors is an important measure. Especially above 250-500 visitors, it is important to have first aid on site.
• You expect visitors who drink a lot of alcohol or use drugs.
• There is an increased risk of fights.
• Many wasps or insects are expected.
• Special weather conditions that may cause visitors to overheat or dry out (extreme heat), hypothermia (heavy rain or cold), it becomes slippery on a site (rain or snow).
• The venue is very large so you want to set up multiple first aid stations.
  

What do they need?

First aid organizations often carry all medical supplies themselves. In some cases an AED is optional but it is advisable to always have it with you. In most cases, they ask for a sheltered and lockable space such as a tent. These should be easily visible. Consult with the organization if you will provide a first aid flag or if they will bring their own. It is also customary for you to provide tables and chairs, enough water and soft drinks for first aid visitors, and sometimes sweets.
