Experience with Stroomversnelling: Youth Reserve - A Hill to Die On

Arnhem-based synthpop duo Youth Reserve have released their latest single A Hill to Die On. The music video for the song was shot in Curaçao, where singer Silvian Ilgen grew up. Singer Silvian Ilgen says of the song, "A Hill to Die On is about conflict. About saying things in the heat of the moment that you know: I'm going to regret this later. A fog of emotions that blurs your vision and makes you isolate yourself on your own little island. And whatever happens, you hold your ground."

Location

The band chose to shoot the clip in Curaçao. "My mother was born there, which technically makes me half Antillean. It feels like home. My family lives there, I go there at least once a year. It's the place where I want to grow old," Ilgen said. About the locations where the clip was shot, he says, "I love the rough background of the salt pans of Jan Thiel, the North Coast and the desert plain of Hato. Those roughness give a nice contrast to actress and model Merlyn Schelling-Garcia".

Contribution Stroomversneller

"The Stroomversneller has been essential to us for this project. It enabled us to pay for the recording of the drums, our producer and part of the mixing and mastering. We also contributed a portion ourselves, a bit of put your money where your mouth is. We are convinced of this project, believe in it and want to show it. Furthermore, Stroomversneller was very easy to reach and we could actually always go to them with our questions."

A Hill to Die On is available to stream via Apple Music and Spotify. The clip can be viewed via YouTube. On Thursday, April 6, 2023, the band will present their new EP 4AM, which includes A Hill to Die On, at Luxor Live in Arnhem. On April 7, the release of the new EP 4AM!
