Experience with Stroomversneller: Them Caged Dogs - Today’s Duty, Tomorrow’s Ruin

Founded by composer and musician Zacharias S. Falkenberg, Them Caged Dogs—a four-piece band from Arnhem—focuses on the far reaches of experimental rock, blending the traditions of stylistically diverse artists such as Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Black Midi, Tool, and The Mars Volta in a unique, defiant way. It’s punk, it’s jazz, it’s (art)rock, it’s (art)pop. In the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, the album *Today’s Duty, Tomorrow’s Ruin* was created with a contribution from De Stroomversneller.

Origins

Falkenberg grew up in various countries during his younger years and always enjoyed exploring unfamiliar cultures and ways of life. TCD was conceived in Berlin and Arnhem as an existential and political response to the controversial times of the pandemic. Before launching TCD, Falkenberg had already gained academic musical experience with The Chronometers Orchestra—a chamber ensemble that performed his Neue Musik and experimental jazz compositions. Them Caged Dogs was born as a response to his earlier musical pursuits.

Thanks to this album production, the band was able to showcase itself online, putting them in the spotlight for live performances.
