Without space, there is no culture, but the city is growing and the pressure is mounting. What does that mean for creators, municipalities, and the sector itself? Come find out on October 1!

Together with creators, cultural organizations, and policymakers from Arnhem and Nijmegen, we’re exploring various aspects of this issue. Riemer Dekker (City of Nijmegen) and Stef Katwijk (City of Arnhem) discuss policy and space for culture. Collectie de Groen and POST share their experiences with relocating and settling into a new place. And with Marije Tangelder of Collectief Koppig and Godfried Verstegen of Brebl, we explore what it means for a cultural organization to connect with a neighborhood.

For everyone active in the cultural sector in Arnhem and Nijmegen: creators, programmers, artistic and executive directors, marketers, policymakers, fundraisers, and cultural innovators. Whether you’ve been in the field for years or are just getting started, you’re more than welcome!

Program

You’re welcome to drop by starting at 3:30 p.m. for coffee and tea. We’ll begin at 4:00 p.m., led by our regular host, Jelko Arts. The program includes, among other things:

• Riemer Dekker (City of Nijmegen) & Stef Katwijk (City of Arnhem) on municipal policy, creative hubs, and space for culture.
• The de Groen & POST Collection on moving, expanding, and settling into a new cultural space.
• Marije Tangelder (Collectief Koppig) & Godfried Verstegen (Brebl) on the meaning and responsibility of settling in a neighborhood.
• Over coffee, Grondlab explains how five creators transformed a former cafeteria into a new cultural hub.
• During "Pass-m-door," De Kurk passes the baton to ...?

After 75 minutes of stories, insights, and discussion, there will be plenty of time to chat over drinks. For this edition, we’ll be guests at BLIK podium on Waalbandijk in Nijmegen, an arts and culture platform where connection is central and creative energy is palpable.

Accessibility

Are you coming by bike? You can park it right outside the door. If you’re coming by car, it’s best to use your GPS to navigate to Fort Krayenhoff 1 and then drive on to the parking lot from there. If that’s full, you can find paid parking on Havenweg, at the Oude Stad parking lot, or in the Waterkwartier.

From Nijmegen Central Station, it takes about ten minutes by bus to reach the Honigterrein. Get off at the Havenweg stop. It’s about a ten-minute bike ride on a public transit bike, or about a quarter of an hour on foot.
